meet hilary

Hey! I’m Hilary, Marquis Counselling and Consulting’s only Nurse Practitioner Psychotherapist. I graduated with my BScN in 2002 and my MN – NP in 2014. I look forward to meeting you and walking with you in your therapy journey. I hold a Master of Nursing and am currently completing a Master of Arts in Thanatology, specializing in the study of death, dying, grief and loss. My experiences in nursing as an outpost nurse, critical care and palliative care have prepared me well to walk alongside you during some of life’s most challenge moments and transitions. I have been a part of the MCC team since 2024.

I offer counselling to individuals, couples and families across many age groups – from young adolescents to adolescents, young adults, adults and older adults. Every stage of life brings its challenges and no one needs to feel alone in theirs.

My main area of speciality is grief care, and I am passionate about helping you companion your grief as you experience it in your own unique way. Grief goes beyond death loss and is reflected in every area of our lives. Our unique loss journey cannot be rushed, and we will move through care at the pace you need. I am passionate about working with those experiencing traumatic loss, healthcare trauma/loss, disenfranchised grief, anticipatory grief, suicide loss, sanctuary trauma and relational loss.

With my background in healthcare and an extensive experience working with individuals and families in that space, I have a unique understanding and perspective when it comes to our life experiences and how they are integrated into our bodies and minds. I love working with clients who are seeking understanding and growth through their experiences. I have worked with all populations and presentations and would love to work with you as well if you are a first responder, consider yourself a high performer or are in a season of transition. I have also worked with people who life with anxiety, depression, have a challenging health diagnosis, live with someone with a mental health diagnosis, domestic caregivers, are parents of kids with ADHD or are living with ADHDthemselves and need some support. On a case-by-case basis, I also offer in home sessions for those who require in person appointments but cannot make it to the Whitby office.

My approach to therapy is built on creating a warm and disarming space that allows clarity and at times directness. I will encourage you to be creative in sessions, using techniques such as talk therapy, walk therapy, art, writing and other forms of personal discovery. In sessions I will challenge you to move beyond the place that you are stuck in to live a full and robust life. I bring a multidimensional approach that is trauma informed and based on your individual needs. We will focus on building skills and creating strategies for your continued journey forward.
