Hi, I’m Katlyn! I work with children, teens and adults, and I’m especially passionate about supporting individuals and families who have been impacted by adoption, including adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents, and those who are hopeful about growing their family through adoption. I also enjoy working with teachers, people with ADHD, and anyone who needs a safe space to feel supported and empowered as they navigate challenges.
I completed my Honours Bachelor’s degree in English and History at Redeemer University, my Bachelor of Education at Brock University, and my Masters of Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Before becoming a therapist, I spent 13 years teaching elementary students in Canada and internationally. That experience continues to shape how I show up in sessions today, as I strive to bring creativity, warmth and humour into sessions to create an environment that sparks growth and reflection. I really value being part of a circle of care and believe that therapy works best when the important people in a child or teen’s life feel supported too.
My approach is person-centred, attachment-based and trauma-informed. I integrate approaches such as EMDR, TF-CBT, M-MAT and DDP as I work with clients from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. My specialized training in Adoption Competency, as well as lived experience, equips me to support clients who are part of the adoption constellation. I always try to tailor therapy to each person’s story and needs, and I aim to move at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive.
I have a deep love of learning and am always exploring new approaches and ideas that I can thoughtfully bring into sessions. I’m also an avid reader, which continues to shape how I grow both personally and professionally. When I am not at work I can often be found with a coffee in one hand and a book in the other, or spending time with my family.
