Hey, I’m Katlyn! I'm a dedicated educator and counsellor with a passion for supporting children’s mental health and well-being. I hold an undergraduate degree in English and History from Redeemer University, a Bachelor of Education from Brock University, and I'm currently completing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University.
With 13 years of experience teaching elementary students both in Canada and internationally, I bring a deep understanding of child development, learning challenges, and emotional well-being into my counselling approach. I've also worked with children in a variety of settings—community programs, day camps, outreach initiatives, and library programs.
I have specialized training in Adoption Competency, which helps me support children who have been adopted or are in foster care, especially those navigating trauma and loss. I take a whole-child approach, meeting children where they are and helping them build confidence, independence, and self-awareness. I work closely with parents to make sure the strategies we use in sessions are supported at home and at school. I believe counselling is just one piece of a broader support system, and I value collaborating with families to help children thrive in every area of life.
Thanks to my background in education, I bring unique insights and creative strategies to help children navigate academic, emotional, and social challenges. I value a compassionate, child-centered approach where kids feel safe, respected, and understood.
Outside of my professional work, I’ve spent many years teaching and volunteering, including time as a teacher and librarian in faith-based schools, and as a long-time volunteer in community and church programs. I truly believe that supportive, caring environments—whether at home, in school, or in the community—play a powerful role in helping children grow into their full potential.
