The Cost of Staying Stuck: Why EMDR Intensives Might Be Worth It

August 08, 20253 min read

One of the hard truths about therapy is that it can be a long road, especially when you’re carrying trauma. Perhaps you’ve been showing up to weekly sessions, doing the work, but still feel like you’re spinning in circles. If so, you’re definitely not alone.

We often meet people who’ve been in therapy for years and still feel like they haven’t reached the root of their challenges. That’s not a reflection of you; it’s often about the format or the complexity of what’s being worked on. One hour a week can be great for some things, but when you’re working through trauma, the stop-start nature of weekly therapy can make it hard to get deep enough, fast enough, to shift the things that really need shifting.

That’s where EMDR Intensives come in.

Trauma doesn’t just live in the past, it lives in the present. Unprocessed trauma doesn’t just fade over time. It hangs around and can show up disguised as burnout, panic attacks, relationship struggles, shame, chronic pain, or constant overwhelm. It can quietly (or loudly) affect your career, your health, your relationships, your parenting, and your sense of who you are.

And whether we realize it or not, carrying trauma has a cost:

  • More sick days, more ER visits

  • Conflict with the people we care about

  • Anxiety that won’t settle, even with all the coping tools

  • Feeling like you’re surviving and not truly living

We believe that healing should be accessible and that getting your life back, on your terms, is worth investing in. We often learn to cope in therapy, but true healing goes deeper. In many therapy models, the focus is on managing symptoms. That can be helpful, especially in a crisis. But coping is not the same as healing.

We thoroughly believe in helping people learn coping skills. When we do trauma work, those skills are essential to manage some of the emotions, memories, and experiences that come up during the process. We often spend a significant amount of time with people helping them learn those skills and tools so they can manage and implement them into their daily lives tho help them cope. When we start to go deeper EMDR is one of the key trauma approaches that we use. We use it collaboratively with parts work, body-based tools, and attachment-focused support to help you actually process trauma at the root. In our intensives, we create a space where that work can unfold without rushing and without needing to stop just as it's getting deeper and closer to the root of the issue.

Why an Intensive Might Be the Shift You’ve Been Looking For

An EMDR Intensive offers several hours of focused therapy over the course of a day or a few days in a row. This format helps you stay in the work, without losing momentum between sessions. EMDR intensives can provide you with dedicated time and space to process experiences and beliefs in a more contained way. It’s not a quick fix, but for many, it’s a turning point and feels like they’re able to move through a larger amount of stuck experiences than they would with weekly or bi-weekly therapy sessions.

Here’s what we know for sure, healing costs something. But staying stuck often costs more. EMDR Intensives are for those ready to do deeper work in a supported, intentional way. If that sounds like where you’re at, we’re here when you’re ready.
